How Much Does Commercial Kitchen Exhaust Cleaning Cost in Sydney?
Real 2026 price ranges by system size, what drives the number up, and the three line items that most often turn a quote into a surprise invoice.

Short answer: a single-canopy clean in Sydney runs $350–$700, a canopy-plus-duct system $900–$2,500, and a multi-storey riser $3,000–$6,000. The variables that move those numbers are canopy count, duct length, roof access difficulty and whether access panels need to be fitted.
Price by system size
| System | Scope | Typical duration | Typical price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Single canopy, filters only | Canopy, filters, plenum | 2–4 hours | $350–$700 |
| Single canopy, short duct | Canopy, filters, duct to roof, fan | 4–6 hours | $900–$1,600 |
| Two canopies, shared run | Both canopies, shared duct, fan | 6–10 hours | $1,600–$2,800 |
| Multi-storey riser | Canopy, riser, roof plant, access panels | 2–3 nights | $3,000–$6,000 |
| Food court (shared system) | Tenancy canopies plus shared riser | Staged over a week | Quoted per site |
Prices are indicative Sydney market ranges for 2026, excluding GST.
What actually drives the price
Duct length and bends. Every metre is more surface to clean, and every bend is a place grease pools and a place a brush has to be worked by hand.
Access. A ground-floor kitchen with a short external run is straightforward. A fifth-floor tenancy discharging through a shared riser to a roof needing height-safety equipment is a different job entirely.
Existing access panels. If the run already has compliant panels at correct intervals, cleaning is faster and cheaper. If it has none, panels must be fitted before anything can be cleaned or certified.
Cooking type. A charcoal kitchen’s duct takes materially longer to bring back to metal than a café’s.
Timing. We do not charge a premium for overnight work — but some contractors do, so check.
The three line items that surprise people
- Access panel installation. The most common post-quote variation in the trade. Ask up front whether panels are needed and get the number in the original quote.
- The fan. Some quotes for “duct cleaning” stop at the roof and exclude the fan and cowl. Grease at the discharge drains straight back into the run you just paid for.
- The certificate. Documentation should be included. If it is a paid add-on, factor it in when comparing quotes.
Why the cheapest quote is usually not the cheapest job
A $180 “rangehood clean” is a wipe-down. The filters get surface-cleaned, the plenum is not opened, no photographs are taken and no certificate is issued. It looks fine from the kitchen floor and changes almost nothing about your fire load or your audit position.
The useful comparison is not price against price — it is price against scope. Ask every contractor the same four questions:
- How are the filters cleaned, specifically? (Should be: heated soak tank at 60–80°C.)
- Which duct sections are included, and how will you reach them?
- Is the fan and discharge cowl in scope?
- What documentation do I receive, and is it included in this price?
Getting an accurate quote quickly
For most single-canopy kitchens we can quote from photographs — canopy, filter rail, and the duct where it leaves the kitchen. For anything with a riser or roof plant, a short site survey gives you a fixed price instead of a range.
Either way we come back the same day during business hours. Send us the details, or read the buyer’s guide to exhaust cleaning in Sydney before you call anyone.
